Faculty Regulations
Essential rules governing instruction, evaluation, professional conduct, and career milestones. Every standard links directly to the Faculty Handbook.
All course syllabi must be published in Canvas by the first day of classes. Each syllabus must contain the 12 required components, including measurable student learning outcomes, required materials, and course grading weights.
At least 3 hours per week during the semester, across at least 2 days, with at least 1 hour available virtually. Times and modalities must be listed on the syllabus and posted outside the faculty office door.
Due 72 hours after the final exam, and no later than the published grade deadline (noon). Required for 100- and 200-level courses, due at the end of week 8. Incompletes must be resolved by the following semester.
Faculty report suspected violations to the Office of Academic Integrity within 10 business days of discovering them. Instructors may initiate a Faculty Resolution Agreement for first offenses or refer cases to the board.
Every syllabus must state one of three levels: Level 1 (AI not permitted for graded work), Level 2 (AI permitted with disclosure for specified tasks), Level 3 (AI permitted broadly with disclosure). Detection tools may never be the sole basis for an integrity report.
Faculty and staff (other than confidential employees) must report information about sexual harassment involving students to the Title IX Coordinator within 24 hours. Confidential resources include Hollis Health and university chaplains.
All faculty complete FERPA training every two years in the Alkimi Learning Portal. Student education records may not be shared without written consent except for legitimate educational interest.
Probationary period of six years; tenure review in year six. A one-year extension is available for birth or adoption, serious illness, or caregiving. Formal third-year review, with a letter from the dean, by May 1 of year three. Workload is 3/2 for tenure-line faculty.
At least 5 external letters, of which no more than 2 may come from reviewers the candidate names. Letters must be arm's-length evaluations from tenured peers at peer institutions.
Tenured faculty are eligible after 6 years of full-time service: one semester at full pay or one year at 60% pay. Applications are due October 1 of the year before. Comprehensive scholarly proposals are submitted through the department chair and dean.
Up to one day per week (averaged over the semester) of outside professional activity with prior approval from the chair and dean. Annual conflict of interest disclosures are filed each October 1.
Consultations on course design, AI syllabus integration, mid-semester evaluations, and inclusive pedagogy.
