How Advising Works by Year
Our developmental advising framework evolves with you as you advance through your undergraduate degree.
Step 1
First Year
Transition & Exploration
Connect with a professional first-year advisor to build foundational study strategies, map Alkimi Core courses, connect your First-Year Seminar (FYS) to prospective disciplines, and discover academic interests before choosing a major.
Step 2
Sophomore Year
Major Declaration & Core Progress
Refine your intellectual direction, complete major gateway courses, and formally declare your degree program before reaching 60 earned semester credit hours. You are transitioned from professional advising to a dedicated departmental faculty advisor.
Step 3
Junior Year
Upper-Division Specialization & Experiential Learning
Work closely with your faculty advisor to fulfill 300- and 400-level major requirements (at least 36 upper-division credits required), explore undergraduate research opportunities, plan study abroad experiences, and secure internship placements.
Step 4
Senior Year
Capstones, Degree Audit & Post-Graduation
Complete your senior integrative capstone, conduct a comprehensive graduation degree audit with the Office of the Registrar, ensure all residency requirements are fulfilled (30 of the final 45 credits in residence), and prepare for graduate school or career entry.
Curricular Pathways
Declaring a Major or Minor
Major Declaration Rules
Every undergraduate must formally declare a major before completing 60 semester credit hours (typically by the conclusion of sophomore year). To declare, you must be in academic good standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.000 or higher.
Certain professional programs enforce competitive application standards or higher minimum GPAs—for instance, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing requires a cumulative GPA of 2.750 and a minimum grade of C+ in all science prerequisites.
Detailed regulations governing majors and minors are codified in Undergraduate Catalog §2.4: Double Majors and Academic Minors.
Double Majors & Concurrent Degrees
- Double Majors: A student may pursue two majors within the same baccalaureate degree designation (e.g., BA in History and English). A maximum of 12 semester credits may overlap between the two majors, and both departmental chairs must approve the declaration. A single diploma lists both majors.
- Dual Degrees (BA and BS): Pursuing two distinct baccalaureate degrees simultaneously requires earning a minimum of 150 total semester credits (at least 30 credits beyond the 120-credit baseline) and written approval from the deans of both schools.
Academic Minors Policy
Minors provide focused secondary study consisting of 18 to 24 semester credits across humanities, sciences, business, or interdisciplinary fields.
- Minor Allowance: Students may declare up to two academic minors.
- Upper-Division Requirement: At least 9 semester credits in the minor must be completed at the 300 level or above.
- Credit Overlap Limit: No more than 6 semester credits may overlap between your primary major and an academic minor.
- Transcript Notation: Approved minors are officially recorded on your university transcript upon graduation.

Every baccalaureate degree at Alkimi University combines general education, major specialization, and elective study.
Total Credits
120
Minimum semester credit hours required for graduation. Average pacing is 15 credits per semester.
Institutional Residency
30 of 45
At least 30 of the last 45 credits must be completed at Alkimi University. At least 50% of major coursework must be taken at Alkimi.
Upper-Division Level
36 Credits
At least 36 credits at the 300 level or above. Two-year college transfer credits do not fulfill this threshold.
Alkimi Core
40 Credits
First-Year Seminar (3), Writing (6), Quantitative (3), Natural Sciences (8), Social Sciences (6), Humanities (6), Arts (3), Global (3), Capstone (2).
Academic Policies
Academic Standing & Success Plans
Alkimi University monitors undergraduate academic standing at the conclusion of each fall and spring semester. Maintaining academic good standing ensures uninterrupted financial aid eligibility, athletic participation, and progress toward degree completion.
Academic Good Standing
Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Required for participation in NCAA varsity athletics and leadership in student government.
Academic Probation
Cumulative GPA below 2.0. Students on probation may take no more than 15 credits and must complete an Academic Success Plan with an advisor.
Requires mandatory registration limit of 15 credits and an advisor-approved Academic Success Plan.
Academic Suspension
A student on probation whose term GPA and cumulative GPA are both below 2.0 is suspended for one regular semester.
Re-enrollment requires a formal petition for readmission to the Academic Standing Committee.
Dean's List & Honors
Term GPA of 3.5 or higher with at least 12 graded credits and no grades of I, F, or NP.
Latin honors at commencement: Cum laude 3.50, magna cum laude 3.70, summa cum laude 3.90 (cumulative, at least 60 credits at Alkimi)..
Academic Success Plans
Students placed on Academic Probation work with the Academic Advising Center to develop and adhere to an individualized Academic Success Plan. While on probation, students are restricted to a maximum registration limit of 15 credits per semester and focus on restoring academic good standing.

Faculty Advising Role
Undergraduate advising is an integral part of faculty teaching responsibilities at Alkimi University:
- Caseload: Full-time faculty are assigned 25 to 30 undergraduate advisees in their department after their first year.
- Pre-Registration Blocks: Faculty schedule dedicated advising office hours prior to registration periods.
- Holistic Guidance: Advisors review degree audits, approve course registrations, and provide counsel on graduate study and career paths.

Spring 2027 Registration Checklist
Course registration for the Spring 2027 semester opens Monday, November 2, 2026. Follow these steps to prepare.
1. Verify Your Registration Window
Spring 2027 registration opens Monday, November 2, 2026. Access AlkimiHub to check your designated registration time ticket, determined by completed credit standing.
2. Review Holds in AlkimiHub
Check for financial, medical immunization, or administrative holds. Financial balances above $500 place an automated registration hold that must be resolved with the One Stop.
3. Generate an Updated Degree Audit
Run your interactive degree audit to track completed Core requirements, identify unmet major prerequisites, and verify your progress toward the 120-credit threshold.
4. Meet with Your Academic Advisor
Schedule your mandatory pre-registration advising appointment. Faculty and professional advisors hold dedicated advising appointments during the pre-registration period beginning November 2, 2026.
5. Build a Schedule with Alternate Sections
Assemble your preferred course selections along with alternative sections in the AlkimiHub schedule builder in case foundational or lab sections reach enrollment caps.
6. Submit Enrollment at Your Designated Time
Submit course registrations promptly when your time ticket opens. You have through the end of the first week of Spring 2027 classes (January 26, 2027) to adjust your schedule.
