Dr. Marcus Lee

Marcus Lee has directed the Center for Teaching & Learning since 2021. The center, on the third floor of Whitcombe Library, works with faculty and graduate instructors on course design, classroom observations and student feedback sessions, curriculum grants, and teaching with technology. Consultations are voluntary and confidential.

Lee chairs the AI Advisory Council's Pedagogy & Curriculum Working Group, which develops the university's syllabus standards for generative AI and oversees the course learning assistant pilot in eight Fall 2026 courses. "We ask instructors to treat the assistant like a new TA," he says. "Useful, but you check its work." Before joining the center as associate director in 2017, he taught introductory biology for nine years at Castellan College, where he became interested in why some students do well in large lecture courses and others quietly disappear.

Lee holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Vantry State University and a PhD in science education from Ostrander University. He plays bass in a faculty and staff band that performs, somewhat reluctantly, at the end-of-year reception.
