Dr. Evelyn Vance

Evelyn Vance is associate dean of graduate studies and vice chair of the Graduate Council. She works with graduate programs and students on academic policy, milestones, and progress toward the degree, and she hears formal grievances about graduate assistantships. Her office is in Founders Hall 242.

Vance joined Alkimi's English faculty in 2005 and directed the Master of Arts in English for eight years before moving to the Graduate School in 2021. A scholar of American poetry, she has written widely on twentieth-century women poets. She started the Graduate School's summer thesis-writing retreat, which gives master's and doctoral students a week of structured writing time and daily check-ins.

She holds a bachelor's degree in English from Stonecroft College and a PhD from Wendover University. She restores antique quilts and has a stack of them waiting on her dining room table.
