Imani Brooks

Imani Brooks directs the Office of Accessibility Services in Harlan Hall 204. Her team works with students with disabilities to set up accommodations, such as testing arrangements, note-taking support, and accessible course materials, and sends the accommodation letters faculty receive each semester.

Brooks also works with faculty when a requested accommodation raises a question about the essential requirements of a course, and with IT when the university adopts new technology. She was the accessibility reviewer in the university's evaluation of the Alkimi AI platform, testing it against WCAG 2.1 standards, and she serves on the AI Advisory Council. "An accommodation isn't a favor," she says. "It's how a course works for everyone who's enrolled in it."

Brooks joined Alkimi in 2019 as associate director and became director in 2022. She began her career as an assistive technology specialist at Castellan College, teaching students to use screen readers and speech-to-text software. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Stonecroft College and a master's degree in special education from Ostrander University. Outside work she's usually at her kids' swim meets or listening to a mystery novel on audiobook.
