Dr. Grace Adeyemi

Grace Adeyemi, PhD, RN, has been dean of the School of Nursing & Health Sciences since 2017. The school, in the Calder Health Sciences Building, offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which admits students directly as first-year applicants, along with degrees in public health and kinesiology and graduate programs including the MSN, the Doctor of Nursing Practice, and the Master of Public Health. Students complete clinical placements at Alkimi University Medical Center and partner sites across the region.

Adeyemi spent twelve years as a critical care nurse at Alkimi University Medical Center before joining the faculty in 2003, and patient safety has shaped her work ever since. Her research looks at how simulation training reduces errors among new nurses. This summer she oversaw the renovation of the school's simulation labs, which added high-fidelity patient simulators and a debriefing room where students review recordings of their scenarios. "Simulation lets students make their first mistakes on a mannequin instead of a patient," she says. "Then they watch the recording, talk it through, and do it again."

She holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from Vantry State University and a master's degree and PhD in nursing from Ostrander University. Her daughter is also a nurse, and the two have a long-running argument about the best shoes for a twelve-hour shift.
