About Dr. Caroline Ashworth

Portrait of Dr. Caroline Ashworth

Caroline Ashworth is associate provost for research and leads the Office of Research in Meridian Science Center 150. The office helps faculty find funding, prepare proposals, and manage grants once they're awarded, and it organizes the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium. Ashworth is also the university's Research Integrity Officer, who receives reports of research misconduct confidentially, and she serves on the AI Advisory Council.

A behavioral neuroscientist, Ashworth joined Alkimi's psychology faculty in 2001 and helped create the undergraduate neuroscience major. Her lab studied how sleep shapes memory in songbirds, work supported by federal research grants for nearly two decades, and more than sixty undergraduates worked in it. She became associate provost in 2019. "Some of the best research on this campus happens in a sophomore's notebook," she says.

Ashworth earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Stonecroft College and a PhD in neuroscience from Vantry State University, followed by postdoctoral research at Corwin University. She is an avid birder, which she points out is how the songbird research started.
